A View from the Dream

Ah-Hah!

S'Ferrin is working on his blog, I will work on mine too! (You'd think that there would be more going on around here on a Saturday night -- but everyone seems pretty quiet. I wonder if it's the "calm before the storm"?)

The most interesting thing I saw today: I was down at Ziebarr's, and there was this guy standing at the counter looking at maps of Grimagix. (He had an embroidered name tag that said -- get this -- "Skeeter.") He must have had three or four local maps spread out in front of the cash register. Zieb was trying to explain to him which freeway went where (and how he could avoid all the detours...Grimagix is just as beset by the construction gnomes during the summer as all the other planes are) and this poor guy just wasn't getting it.

Obviously an out-of-towner -- not only did he not know where he was, he also couldn't figure out why the roads drawn on the maps kept changing places. I remember living somewhere once where all the roads stayed in the same spot, and it took forever to get anywhere without the crosstown portals we have here. Wonderful things. But this lost soul (literally) just kept trying to trace the road as if it was linear, and Zieb had to start over again with him several times.

So I'm in line behind him, with several six-packs of pop getting heavier and heavier. Finally Zieb just told him to "alright, never mind all that hokey-pokey, go on down this here road apiece, and when you hit the stoplight that shoots the fish out the yellow bulb, crank'er up to about 60. That'll do 'er." The man took one last look at Ziebarr's spinny yellow eyes, decided not to even bring that up, thanked him and left.

"Zieb," I said, as I paid for my stuff, "that puts him downtown."

"Yep. Right next to the Three-Leg-Jiggle Review. He'll still be lost, but I reckon he won't mind so much once he gets in there for a gander."

I suppose I'd better get to work on my part of that Grimagix Visitor's Tour website project that the Council approved last week.

Finally Getting Started...

Everyone in the house has caught the blogging bug, with only a little prompting from me. Now that I've got a few minutes to myself, I figured I'd better get started on mine. I'm trying to figure out how to change the damned background...HTML I can do; XML is something new to me.

It's good to see Grimagix gaining a foothold in the other reality, finally. For so long, I've been the only person in that world who really understands it (except for Bethie. Hi, Bethie!) Now it seems that others are getting excited about the place and its possibilities, too. Good thing it's an infinite plane composed of infinite planes, otherwise we'd never find room for the deluge of new citizens. They're kind of like shell-shocked refugees of what they once called "reality", staggering in through the portals, wide-eyed and skittish. Some of them don't even realize that they're no longer on their "home plane"...or aren't they? For a lot of people, Grimagix is their home plane -- they just don't realize it until they actually get there.

We've still got a lot of work to do -- both on this plane and the other one. I don't know where I'm going to find time to process all this (time doesn't exist, and this fact is most strikingly apparant when I've got a list of 300 things to do).

I'm going to try to get to a few of those other 299 things now. In the meantime, if you want to get an idea of just who's writing this, go check out my online portfolio, which could also use some renovations. Sigh.
